Elevated global consumption generates more waste which increases the demand for recyclable materials. Our Design for Recycling approach facilitates mono-material packaging based on the most commonly used, and the easiest to recycle, polymer which is Polyethylene (PE).
To unleash mono-material packages based on single PE polymer, a PET film replacement has been developed in the form of MDO PE. We have perfected the process of machine direction orientation of High Density PE (HDPE) to ensure a circular economy for flexible packaging.
● The Flexible Packaging Dilemma
Today, consumers, brands, and retailers expect packaging that are both sustainable and can preserve products. To meet these seemingly conflicting requirements, converters are therefore forced to use laminates made from various polymer types. The heterogeneous composition of these packages, however, makes them unrecyclable.
● Mono-Material Concept
The use of the Machine Direction Orientation (MDO) technique with our innovative mono-oriented PE (MOPE) improves key properties of the laminate film including better stiffness, higher durability, excellent barrier for moisture and aroma, optical clarity, lighter packaging, and a reduction in the structure gauge.
● Transforming a Conservative Industry
PET films are optimal for flexible packaging applications and have existed for decades. Our MDOPE films are the alternative solution to traditional PET print films. Once laminated to PE sealant webs, they create a true mono-material PE structures that can be recycled. Shifting to a recyclable substitute is challenging; therefore, in the last several years our prioritized the development of best in class MOPE films to match PET properties.
